The preparations for James and Karlynn’s wedding began on a beautiful, sunny fall. James got ready at a house nearby with his groomsmen, while Karlynn got ready at the Palmetto Collegiate Institute; a gorgeous Southern venue in the heart of Lexington, South Carolina. The sun shone and sparkled on the purple tablecloths set up on the reception tables outside. Rows of chairs were lined up in the grass for a lovely outdoor ceremony. Portraits were taken of the bride and bridesmaids, groom and groomsmen the hours before guests began to arrive.
Then, we began to notice that the wind was picking up and storm clouds were forming overhead as the musician played, guests took their seats, and grandparents were walked up the aisle. Just as James, the groom, made his way to the front, blue drops of rain started to fall. For approximately another minute, we attempted to keep going and proceed with the ceremony, and then it became evident that the sky was going to open up! Everyone ran back to the porch of the venue and watched the storm blow through. Thankfully, Karlynn and her bridesmaids never got wet and they waited patiently inside for it to pass. About 30 minutes later, all of the groomsmen and a handful of guests went out armed with a roll of paper towels to wipe down seats and get ready to begin again.
These lyrics from “A Love Like This” by Ben Rector were sung as Karlynn walked down the aisle, arm in arm with both of her lovely parents, eyes locked on her man. They have grown so much together the past few years, and are more than ready for this adventure together as husband and wife. I loved hearing their little giggles during the ceremony, and witnessing their sweet words of confidence in one another, building each other up, and reminding each other what they loved so deeply about the other.
James and Karlynn, I have been incredibly blessed to know you both for a long time, and even more blessed now to have shared in this amazing day in your lives as you became one. I was moved by the joy you put in each other’s hearts and and peace that seemed to settle over both of you all day long – even despite of a very unpredictable day. You had your eyes fixed on each other, not the circumstances, which is something that will carry you far. Our family loves you like our own, and we are always a phone call away and a free place to stay for any of your Northern adventures 😉
All our love, The DAttoma’s
